About the instructor

Picture
I myself am a product of the Suzuki method having begun at the age of four.  I have been playing the violin for 31 years and teaching for twelve.  I just recently relocated to the South Bay from San Francisco where I was running and managing my own private studio.  I had students ranging from ages 3- high school.  I taught private lessons, group class and conducted ensembles of all levels and playing abilities.  In addition to teaching the violin I have gained extensive experience with children through my years as an elementary school teacher.  I hold a California Multiple Subject teaching credential and have taught in grades K-5. My studio policies as well as my expectations of my students and their parents can be found below.

Studio Policies

  • Lessons will be offered for ages three and up
  • Parents of students working in books 1-3 are required to attend each lesson and take notes for their child.
  • Lessons are 30 minutes in length and are to begin and end promptly at the scheduled time.
  • Make-up lessons will be offered only in the event of the instructor needing to reschedule.
  • Student practice sessions should be at least 20-30 minutes daily. (It is especially important with younger children to establish this routine even though they may not be playing for 30 minutes. Violin time could include playing, listening to pieces or performing exercises etc.)
  • All students should listen, on a daily basis, to the recordings of the books in which they are currently working. Listening can occur any time of the day and take place anywhere. For example, it can be played while getting ready for bed or in the car ride on the way to school.
  • Most of all, remember that you and your child should have fun!

Studio Fees

During the school year session (September-June) a flat fee of 125$/month will be charged and is payable at the beginning of each month. This includes private instruction and three weeks of vacation (to be announced at beginning of school year.)  Coming soon will be group classes and level based ensembles for an additional fee.

Summer session lessons are 30$/lesson.
